Kamna Das, VP, AANA Mahesh Kalita, President, AANA Princeton, New Jersey 8/22/03 Assam Foundation of North America --------------------------------- We are deeply grievened by the sad news of the demise of Dr. Bhabendranath Saikia. It goes without saying that Dr. Saikia was one of the worthiest sons of Assam. In a sense, he was a true literary and cultural ambassador from Assam with illustrious examples of sucess. He did not work for awards and titles; but all came to him. He was a silent achiever - promoting, fostering and cultivating creativity not only in Assam but also nationwide and worldwide. He will live forever in his creations, in his contributions to the society and in every individual who is inspired by his work and his ideals. Lately we had been in close contact with his family in regards to the Aarohan project of his Children's Welfare Trust. We had been working on a fund-raising drive and have collected more than a lakh of Rupees so far. We wanted to personally deliver our donations to him. But he left us before we could do that. We will keep our promise and try to do our best for this project which was so close to his heart. We join all Assamese organizations in North America in expressing our sincere condolences to the bereaved family. We share the sorrow with all our assamese brethren and offer our tributes to Late Dr. Bhabendranath Saikia - one of the greatest Assamese of all times. May his noble soul rest in eternal peace! Krishanu Kaushik President, Assam Foundation of North America Detroit, Michigan 8/15/2003 Assam Society of America --------------------------- Dear Raiz: Assam Society of America (ASA) deeply mourns the death of Dr. Bhabendranath Saikia, one of the greatest sons of Assam of the 20th and 21st centuries. He was a prolific author and artist although his formal training was in nuclear physics. Dr. Saikia's novels, short stories, and editorials highlighted mundane events and processes of daily life that he made remarkable with his valuable insight powered by the lucidity and simplicity of his language. He created many Assamese movies that illustrated and scrutinized Assam's societal and cultural norms, and presented them to the critical world receiving great acclaim in return. ASA joins all Assamese organizations in North America: Assam Association of North America, Assam Xahitya Xabha (North America), Assam Foundation of North America, and UAONA, in expressing its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the late Dr. Saikia. May his soul rest in peace!
