The programme commenced with nam prasanga, organised by Smt Bhabani Kakati. The Namotees were Bhabani Kakati, Jeeban Tara Baruah, Urmi Medhi, Dhira Hazarika and Rini Kakati. The nam prasanga concluded with the distribution of prasad by Bhabani Kakati and Dhira Hazarika.

The chairman Dr Dinesh Chandra Kakati addressed the eagerly awaiting audience with a welcome speech. He expressed his appreciation to everybody for supporting him throughout the last 23 years in maintaining the Sankar Jayanti tradition in the UK. Dr DC Kakati outlined some of the many contributions Mahapurush Sankardev made in reforming the Assamese society. He was followed by two other speakers. Dr Lakhi Das and Prof Dhruvojyoti Bora.

The cultural show commenced with ‘Guru Sangeet chorus’ by the Sankardev celebration committee. This was led by Bhabani Kakati. Borgeets and lokageets were sung by Bhabani Kakati Rosie Sen Suravi Lahon, Lahori Borthakur, Kamal Hazarika and Dr Nilmoni Sikdar. The entire programme was compered by Sanchayita Goswami. The highlight of the cultural programme was a series of Sattriya dances’ performed by noted artist from Asom, Sharodi Saikia.

The vote of thanks was given by Dr Khargeshwar Lahon. In his speech, he gave a special acknowledgement to the immense effort and months of hard work by Bhabani Kakati to make the Sankar Jayanti a great success. Rita Kakati, Rishi Kakati and Loona Hazarika were also thanked for coordinating the logistics for the evening. Iqbal Rasul and Taskin Rasul arranged all of the catering for the day.
