The Assam Association, Mumbai had celebrated “Rongali Bihu 2003” on Saturday 12th April on R. Thadani School, Chembur with overwhelming response of hundreds of Assamese people residing in the financial capital of the country, Mumbai.

The outgoing and newly elected presidents of the association namely Mr Sudhir Handique and Mrs Rupanjali Baruah addressed the entire Assamese community and wishing on the occasion of Rongali Bihu & Assamese New year. The programme started with the flag hosting ceremony by Mrs Pushpa Bora. A group song had officially inaugurated the function. This was folloed by “Ras Nritya by school children from Panval, Body building show by Sadananda Gogoi, Children Bihu dance competition, “Hussari” presented by Sushmita Rajkonwar and team, Modern Assamese Song by Mrs Bandana Gogoi Baruah, Duet Bihu Song by Jiten & Papori Nath, Satriya Dance by Upasana Mohanta from Guwahati, Short Play with direction of Nevadita Hazarika and Bihu dance by Geetu and Gargi Borgohain.

Chief guest and noted Marathi Poet Mr Ramdas Futane has inaugurated the newsletter from the Assam Association “Enazari”. After that, association had felicitated distinguish assamese people residing in Mumbai for their success in various aspects of life, namely Padmashree Mr Jahnu Baruah, Exide India’s Vice President Mr Paban Kotoki, Reliance Industried Ltd. Oil & Gas Division’s Advisor Dr Gauri Handique, Noted Singer and Composer Mr Zubeen Garg and Executive Director from ONGC Mr Ajit Hazarika in the function. Zubeen Garg had sang few sweet modern Assamese songs as well as Bihu Songs to made the entire evening more romantic. In the “Mukoli (Open) Bihu Dance” upcoming actress of Bollywood and reknown Bihu dancer Miss Jaya Seal had brighten up the function. The function ended up with the feast.

The Assam Association, Mumbai expressed thanks to the entire Assamese community for their co-operation and support to make it a successful Rongali Bihu function.
