Not surprisingly, her parents are from two different worlds. Besides, being an adventurist, traveler and educationist, this glorious lady runs the private Sacred Heart School in Guwahati, since those days when English medium schools in the state were quite non-existent. Now with a dream project, a research institute for studies, still in the pipeline, the lady is raring to go.

Speaking to newsmen immediately after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Congress ministry at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhawan here Friday, Mr Gogoi said tackling fiscal indiscipline and controlling insurgency will be two most important tasks before the new government. He said he will press the Central Government for waiving the State’s huge debt of approximately Rs 10,000 crore. In this regard, he said he will be meeting Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee very soon. ‘‘I have become the Chief Minister of Assam when it is passing through the most difficult period.

Though he has been in it for the past three decades, he is yet to be a member of Assembly. But his incorruptible image and leadership quality has made him the unanimous choice for the post of the chief minister this time.
