Dr Biren Dutta nominated Sahitya Sabha president

The Sabha executive committee which met at Nazira took the decision today to nominate Dr Dutta. Dr Dutta will preside over the next Sabha session to be held in Lakhimpur early next February.

When contacted for his reaction, Dr Dutta said this evening that he had never imagined that he would be nominated Sabha President any day. “This is the seat adored by personalities like Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah, Pandit Krishnakanta Handique and Prof Maheswar Neog. I feel very small compared to them. I never felt that I deserved it. But, I accept the nomination with all humility,” Dr Dutta said. On his plans as the Sabha president, Dr Dutta said that so far he was engaged in academic activities and was never a part of the Sabha organisation, it would be too early to speak about his plans. “I will have to ponder on it and than only I will be able to spell it out,” he said.
