Assam drama doyen no more

Author of such immortal plays like Soraguri Chapori, Mukhyamantri etc, Borthakur had ushered a new dawn in the domain of play-writing with his thematic experimentation and innovative presentation. Beginning with Janma, this noted playwright had carved a niche for himself in the world of letters.

Apart from dramas, Borthakur had also earned fame in the literary circle with his down to earth novels like Begampara, that portrays the life of the people in a backward area. His other novels like Diroi Noir Bali and Brihannala could win the approval of the readers.

On the other hand, Borthakur’s radio skit Nukuwai Bhal, had made the radio listeners laugh their heart out. He was closely associated with the mobile theatre of the State.

Several prominent citizens have expressed their grief over the demise of Borthakur. Ratna Ojah, eminent playwright, said that the star of the drama world would no more shine from today.

\\"We are now lonely. The theatre world has lost its guide,\\" said Kulada Kumar Bhattarcharya.

Meanwhile, Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has condoled the demise of the renowned playwright. Former Assam Chief Minister PK Mahanta and APCC chief Bhubaneswar Kalita also condoled the death of the dramatist.
